How M.D. Wilson Construction began

Working as his uncle's helper, Mike Wilson began in the building business during his high school summer breaks.  After graduating from Elon University and operating a business with his brothers, he built his first home for his own family.  In 1970 he sold his part of the family retail business and began his career as a builder.

How we got into the log home construction business

During the 1982 World's Fair, one of Mike's friends was fascinated by watching a log raising.  He came back to Burlington, NC, and asked Mike to build him a log home.  From the early beginning of cutting the trees, joining them with axe and saw and constructing a very traditional log home, Mike realized there had to be a better way.  He worked with three different log home manufacturers and then found Appalachian Log Structures.  He was impressed with their ability to pressure treat the logs and to their commitment to quality in all phases of manufacturing and design.  Since 1984 M.D. Wilson Construction has used Appalachian Log Structures (ALSI) building systems exclusively.  That has led to over 50 log homes being built since then.  Click here to view some of the homes we have built.  Log homes now represent 7% of the custom homes built in the United States.
